EducationI am currently an MBA student. My long-term goals include completing a doctorate in Educational Management. I possess a BA in Political Science, with a focus on International Relations- which includes Geography.
ExperienceI am interested in being a tutor to help me with my long-term aspirations- to open a charter school. My interest in elementary education has led me to pursue further interest as a PhD student upon completion of my MBA in less than a year. I have been invited to apply for several fellowships by various organizations, including the National Science Foundation.
Personally, I believe that teaching is a calling. It's up to the teacher to create an environment for the student to succeed; I also believe today's classroom structure does not allow that- for a number of reasons. Therefore, parents are compelled to supplement their children's education. Sometimes, students just need the opportunity to learn at their own pace in an environment that has been adapted to their needs.
As an undergraduate, I tutored students at elementary schools who were enrolled in supplemental reading programs. I've also provided reading, English, and Social Studies tutoring to local high school students throughout the Baton Rouge and New Orleans' metropolitan areas. My coursework included Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science (including Constitutional Law, Civil Governments, International Relations, and American Foreign Policy).
I currently possess the CEM designation as credentialed by the International Association of Emergency Managers. I am certified in Basic First-Aid, AED, and CPR for adults and Children.
HobbiesI am a leader in my church's youth group. My hobbies include skydiving, traveling, and reading. I am currently taking Turkish cooking lessons.
One of my most passionate hobbies is creative writing. I have several books of poetry and have won poetry contests. Throughout high school and college, I edited various collections. However, my proudest collection is the family cookbook my cousin made as her wedding favors last year. While the cookbook was a collaborative effort among the wedding party, as the maid of honor, it was my job to make sure everything worked smoothly- which it did. The cookbook has been a tool of joy to everyone- even those who couldn't make it to the wedding!
