EducationAfter 8 years in the Marine Corps I am finishing my degree in Chemical Engineering.
ExperienceMy motivation to tutor comes from a previous job as a counselor at a boarding school where I found myself eager to share my enjoyment of math and chemistry, and to help the students understand their lesson material during study hall.
I generally focus on mathematics and chemistry. My method is structured around teaching parallel with the current lessons of the primary instructor, while incorporating real world problem scenarios that appeal to the interests of the student. Many students shy from math and science because they cannot SEE what the equations are actually doing besides changing numbers or symbols on paper. By presenting problems in this way, students become curious of the solution and begin to use the equations and proofs as the tool they are, while gaining a true comprehension of the subject matter instead of memorizing. I also ensure that the student is continuously challenged, but not overwhelmed. My homework generally consists of reinforcement problems of varying difficulty and a single particularly challenging problem that requires comprehensive knowledge and out of the box thinking. This allows me to see the direction the students mind is taking and is a valuable tool for evaluating their understanding.
I hold myself to the absolute highest of standards. I encourage continuous parent and student feedback and I will never charge for a lesson that does not produce satisfaction and results.
I generally meet in a local library but am more that willing to travel to your home. Please note that if I do tutor at your residence, I require a parent or legal guardian to be present at all times.
I look forward to hearing from you and turning a dreaded subject into a wonderfully interesting and useful world.
